At Family Law Specialists, we believe that behind every legal matter is a person, a family, and a story that deserves to be heard.

Family Law Specialists, as it is known today, was established in 2010, but our history within the Porirua community reaches back much further. The first iteration of Family Law Specialists was established in 1985, marking the beginning of more than forty years of service to the Porirua community. Over that time, the firm has grown and evolved alongside the people it serves, while remaining committed to providing trusted legal advice and representation to those who call this region home.

Many of our clients come to us during periods of change, uncertainty, or loss. Whether they are navigating separation, making arrangements for their children, supporting an elderly loved one, administering an estate, or planning for the future, our role is to provide clarity, reassurance, and effective representation when it is needed most.

We are proud to be a firm that is deeply connected to the people and communities we serve. Our vision is to provide legal services that are approachable, accessible, and grounded in genuine care for people. We believe everyone should have access to quality legal support and be treated with dignity, respect, and understanding, regardless of their circumstances.

Children are at the heart of much of the work we do. In some Family Court matters, our lawyers may be appointed by the Court to act for a child. This means we are engaged by the Court to represent the child’s interests and ensure their voice is appropriately considered within the legal process. Family Court proceedings can be challenging for everyone involved, and it is often children who are most affected by the outcomes. We are committed to ensuring that their wellbeing remains central to the decisions being made around them.

We are equally passionate about advocating for vulnerable members of our community, including elderly people and those who may not be in a position to fully advocate for themselves. We believe that every person deserves to be valued, respected, and properly represented.

Our approach is always guided by what will best help individuals and families move forward. Where possible, we encourage respectful resolution through negotiation, mediation, and practical problem-solving. When Court proceedings are necessary, we provide strong advocacy while never losing sight of the people behind the process.
